Therapy
Therapy is a unique process for every client. It's an opportunity for you to focus on yourself in a nonjudgmental and safe environment.
"It is a luxury to be understood."-Ralph Waldo Emerson
What is Individual Therapy?
Therapy is a process in which you as the client will collaborate with me as your therapist to assist with developing strategies to cope with anxiety, depression, family stressors, relatioinships or other issues that are impacting your mood. Our sessions are one-on-one unless you are a minor. If you a minor (under the age of 16), my typical structure is that the parent and/or guardian will attend the initial intake session for a portion of the appointment and I will meet with both the client and the parent and/or guardian every 3 to 4 weeks.
What should I expect during my first session?
Your first session will be an initial intake session during which time you will complete paper work, review confidentiality and the presenting issue(s) that brought you to therapy. The first session will be very different from our normal sessions. Additionally, we will discuss frequency of appointments. Typically, clients and supervisees are encouraged to meet with me every week or every other week.
How will I know if I have found the right therapist?
Each therapist is different based on their background, life experiences and approach. You will know you have the right therapist if you are comfortable with that therapist's approach, personality and skill set. My general appraoch is to be encouraging, direct and comforting. I am very open and honest with clients in reference to the therapuetic process. My specialities are centered on my clinical training and experiences. In reference to my personality, I enjoy light humor and use it to relate to clients at times.
