Frequently Asked Quesitons
Prior to scheduling a consultation you may have certain quesitons about therapy and I wanted to provide you with some general information.
What can I expect from therapy?
An opportunity to discuss issues that cause stress and/or take away from your overall well-being. As your therapist, my goal is to serve as a soundboard to assist with developing insight and aiding you along your path to self-imporvement.
Is therapy right for me?
Therapy is a great opportunity to change. I value the process of collaboratively working with clients. Initially, therapy can be a different experience during the first couple of sessions. If you are motivated and hoping to generate change within your life therapy is a great starting point.
How confidential is therapy?
Everything discussed with your therapist is confidential except information related to reported child abuse, suicidal thoughts, homicidal ideation and elder abuse.
I will review confidentiality with you during our first session.
Will you give me medication?
No. As a master's level clinician in the state of Maryland, I am not licensed to provide you with medication. If you would like to consider medication, we can discuss referral options and potential pros an cons of starting medication.
How is therapy different from talking to my friends and family?
Therapy is very different from talking to your friends and family. As your therapist, my main goal is to be objective and nonjudgemental which might be difficult for your family and friends because they may know other people within your social support or offer biased feedback.
